Short Story about the origins of Fred:
It was starting to get cold and Fred had just moved. He nestled into a new cottage where he began to make friends, many of which had
qualities that reminded him of individuals he knew back home. Friends that would show up at your door, which you wouldn’t need to invite, but would seemingly, just arrive. Fred knew that to survive the cold winters he would need to rely on the warmth of these newly formed friendships. Fred quickly discovered that the quills of others from trying to keep warm had wounded not only himself but also his closest companions. It was at that point he realized he had a decision to make
“ Do I choose to die alone and cold to avoid the wounds from my friends? Or, do I make a choice to accept the quills of my companions
and live together?”. Fred talked with his friends about their wounds and apologized for the ones that he had caused, they deliberately made an agreement that they would use their heat to keep each other warm so that hedgehogs would not go extinct, but as soon as the jabs of each others quills would become too painful they would give each other enough space to maintain heat, and not become wounded.
You might ask yourself then why is Fred here all alone? Where are his friends? This was the story Fred wish he would have chose, he wish he would have conversed with his companions, to compromise, to come to understand the quills and how to live WITH THEM. Instead, Fred is left here alone, the only one of his kind, left with the ramification of his quills, wishing he could could have another opportunity to fix his cold, lonely situation. May you hold Fred, let his body leave an impression on your skin. The planet we live on is precious, and so are it's creatures. May Fred act as a story in which we choose to tell different. Nearly 200 species die each day from the way we live our lives, how can we work together while we still have time? These issues are not going away, and maybe this piece of metal that bestows an empty vessel for Fred to store his sadness, means very little, but it’s a start, created with intentions to fuel a fire of continue existence of our kind, and others.
